Helvetica
Helvetica is possibly the most famous font. Its used everywhere, even our class room, and now we know everything there is to know about it, thanks to the wonderful video we watched today documenting the entire life span on the font. We learned how it was created, why its so popular, who uses it, and how fonts in general are created, and how they can mean so much on the page. There were in-depth interviews with graphic designers, font designers and publishers.

Back to Dreamweaver
This week has been kind of frantic for me. I realised that I was designing all of my pages in Photoshop, but the Text and pictures needed to be in Dreamweaver. Basically, I had to start from scratch with my template and put all the content in through Dreamweaver. I recreated the Home page, and abut me page in Dreamweaver, and almost finished the My TV page. next week I will continue creating my website in Dreamweaver, not photoshop, transferring all the content in to the pages with "Div Tags"

Here is a picture of the About me page, in Dreamweaver.

My Games
This week I have worked on my "My Games" page of my website. After a long time deciding on who to include, I took characters from Final Fantasy X and Tomb Raider and put them on my page:

I also added some information on my other favourite games It is not finished, and there is still room in the middle for more content.

Continuing
This session in media I further worked on my Pages. I created the "my TV" Page and linked i to the others in Dreamweaver, as well as making a start on the "My Games" page, on which I have included all the characters from Final Fantasy X.
I have the basic template, so making the pages is only a matter of creating the content.

Further Photoshop
This week i have been in photoshop designing the home page and the About me page. I attempted to import the files to dreamweaver, but failed miserably, so I asked for help from the session teacher and then understood. I didnt get time for too much work in dreamweaver, and most of my time was spent in PhotoShop

The links are on the right of the page and the main content will be displayed in the grey area, the current page will bedisplayed in writing at the bottom. To return to the home page, there is a button on the bottom left of the page.

Designing and planning

In this weeks lesson I began to plan and design my website. I made some sketches on paper and when i was finished i began work on my ome (index) page. I planned to include a "portal" I go a picture from the internet and opened it in photoshop. I the wrote "Enter jakeusi.com" in Trajan Pro font and sliced around the text (for a link) I have included a picture of this page in the post.
It was importat to make the page 800x600 because that is the smallest screen laptops come in. This means that al screens can see the entire page at a time, with no need for scrolling, without excluding people.

Research
This week we were doing reseach for our web sites. The web sites are going to be abut us, so we had to find anything that relates to us that we could include. This meas that anything from videos, music, books, games and pictures could be included.
Upon finding relevant things we were to put some proof of them into a word document.

Web Design: First Day
Every Thursday i am taking part in a web design course at Grimsby College.Today I have resarched 5 websites:
www.gamefaqs.com
www.youtube.com
www.ebay.com
www.bbc.co.uk
www.wikipedia.org
For each website I answer the following questons:
"What are your first thoughts about the website?"
"What is the website about, who is it aimed at?"
"What is the mix of text/images?"
"What do you like/dislike about the site?"
"Is it easy to navigate around?"
"Are there any advertising or links on the site? Are they relevant?"
When i had finished this I moved on to some work in photoshop, Optimising images for web.
I used a .png format picture of a rubber duck, ("ducky") and opened it in the Photoshop application. I then used the "save for web" button and changed the optimisation setting to the preset .jpeg(low) This reduced the original 800kb image to a much smaller 7.947 kb image, and when i used the 2-up option, i could see that the change had caused no visible quality loss. I then saved the image like this as a copy of the original image.
Optimising images for web is very important when adding them to a website. Original images take much to long to load on certain web pages, saving for web is the best way to combat this. it reduces fie size significantly with no quality loss on -screen. However if I were to print off the picture, it would be pixelated.
Optimised images therefore take less time to load and will be displayed quicker.
